GDLF jointly sponsoring Small Business Awards -  July 2007
GDLF has agreed to become a Joint Sponsor of the Small Business Awards in conjunction with GEMBA, Princes Trust, Exceptional Thinking and Barclays Bank PLC. Applications will shortly be requested for nominations, or for businesses to put themselves forward, for consideration under various categories. These will include Best Business, Overcoming Obstacles, Most Creative Marketing, Standing Out Award and ‘Life is too short’. These awards are aimed at small businesses, commonly employing fewer than 20, with a turnover under £1 million.

GDLF receive official CITR accreditation - June 2007
It has been confirmed that GDLF have received official accreditation under the tax relief scheme, CITR (Community Investment Tax Relief). This enables future investors to claim relief up to 5% pa on money invested in the Fund; full details can be obtained by contacting us, or by viewing www.hmrc.gov.uk/specialist/citc_guidance.htm.

Annual CDFA Conference - May 2007
The annual Community Development Finance Association conference offers a chance for newcomers to the sector to find out about community development finance and what it can achieve, as well as offering learning opportunities to existing practitioners. Visit the Money £or Change website at www.cdfa.org.uk/conference to view previous conference details, read associated articles and to see news from this year’s event which was held in Ashford. The only funding recipient to present to the conference was one of GDLF’s success stories, Nick Clarke from Off The Rails Catering Limited, whose case study can be viewed on the our clients page.

GDLF Success Stories continue – House of Commons - April 2007
Elley and Piers Flook, of The Tin Men Limited, presented their success story at the CDFA’s House of Commons event “Access to Finance” in April. Again, they were the only funding recipients given this platform. Their case study can be viewed on the our clients page.

GDLF celebrations - June 2006
GDLF held an event at the University of Gloucestershire on Monday 19 June to celebrate our work and to showcase some of our successful clients. Presentations were made by Grant Thornton and Barclays Bank plc amongst others, about how our future funding will work; and visitors heard ‘from the horse's mouth' how GDLF has helped local companies such as InkCottage.com, G & S Hydraulic Engineering Services and Prima Medical in building their business success...more info on the downloads page.

CDFI sector featured in the Observer - April 2006
On Sunday 2 April, 2006 the CDFI sector was featured in two stories in the business section of The Observer. One story commented on Community Investment Tax Relief (CITR), one of the key initiatives introduced by Chancellor Gordon Brown to promote social investment. The second story featured the CDFA 's Honorary President, Sir Ronald Cohen and looked at how his support has been invaluable in helping to regenerate some of the poorest parts of Britain. Barclays Launches Awards to Honour Unsung Local Business Heroes - February 2006
The Barclays Trading Places aim to recognise men and women from all over the UK who have overcome various barriers and battled against adversity to positively change their lives by setting up in business.  Entries will be judged on how enterprising individuals have overcome personal challenges and obstacles - such as long-term unemployment, financial hurdles, physical disabilities, discrimination and personal tragedy - to set up on their own. The 'Gold' first prize is £5,000 cash from Barclays, £7,000 worth of directory advertising from Thomson Local Directories plus £2,000 of consultancy from marketing communications agency Fox Murphy.  A 'Silver' Runner-Up will also receive £3,000 cash from Barclays, plus £3,000 worth of directory advertising from Thomson Local Directories and £1,000 free marketing consultancy from Fox Murphy. New tax break for investors - June 2005
BBC's Radio 4 Moneybox recently featured a relatively new tax break for investors in their community. CITR or Community Investment Tax Relief can offer corporate or individual investors   tax relief of 25% over 5 years for those investing in CDFIs. This represents a good financial return as well as a social dividend of benefiting the communities in which we live and do business. GDLF will be seeking accreditation for this scheme and hope to start attracting investors in the coming months.
